Yesterday, I saw... (2018)
The watercolor paintings are little cards aimed for distribution purposes, replicated through prints for spread, marketing and collection.

Nine of the pieces are chosen and framed, showcased during the First Emily Carr Illustration Department Student Exhibition which I participated. This is the final version as a gallery artwork hanging in the wall.

I noticed a disadvantage of my gallery piece; since my paintings are small, audience has to come up close before the frame in order to recognize the details. As a further extension of a gallery work for the cards, I organized twelve of the pieces into a larger frame, now that this one is an interactive piece, requiring and welcoming the audience to come close and touch the piece. As the interaction happens, the distance between the art and the eye will be shorter, and full attention will be given to the hidden painting behind the window.

Referring to my memory as a child, I love to read interactive books and I made the action of flip-open-and-see within this frame according to these books, tying directly to the theme of childhood memory of this project.
A twenty-four page picture book illustrated and written by myself for my childhood.
Each illustration is an object acting as a piece of memory. I believe everybody has more or less similar experiences in their childhood who has a close age and culture background with me. It is a chance for me to awake their sleeping memories that they nearly forget and remind them of what is it like in their childhood, what they have experienced, what they have seen and who they have met before but cannot be found anymore these days.

The actual booklet had been showcased in the Emily Carr Reading Room.
